PARISH SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION PROGRAMME 2017

CONFIRMATION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Extracts from

Sacramental Policy: Christian Initiation of Children (Archdiocese of Brisbane)

Christian Initiation incorporates us into Christ and forms us into God’s people.

1. Infants are baptised at the request of their parents, usually in the first year of life and in their home parish.

2. In the year when the children turn eight (Year Three), they are sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation.

3. In the year when the children turn nine (Year Four), they are welcomed to the Lord’s Table and receive Holy Communion for the first time.

4. In the year when the children turn ten (Year 5), after Confirmation and First Communion, they prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Penance with individual confession and absolution.

Children prepare for the Sacraments at home and within parish programmes that involve both the children and their parents.

When parents have determined that their child is ready for the Sacraments, they make the formal request of the parish for their child’s admission to sacramental preparation.

Each child is then enrolled in the parish programme for sacramental preparation.

It is expected that each child will be receiving ongoing instruction at home both before and after the time of celebrating the Sacraments.

Cannon Hill Catholic Parish welcomes children who have been baptised to prepare for and celebrate the Sacraments of Confirmation, First Reception of Holy Communion and Penance (Reconciliation). Children prepare for the Sacraments at home and within parish programmes that involve both the children and their parents.

The Parish celebrates the Sacraments in accordance with the Sacramental Policy of the Archdiocese of Brisbane (see the extract above).
